What Omna is

Omna is a browser extension and desktop app that detects and masks personally identifiable information (PII) before it is sent to AI services such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and DeepSeek.

Data we collect

Omna does not collect, transmit, or store your file contents, prompts, or detected PII on external servers. All PII detection and masking runs locally on your device using WebAssembly.

What stays on your device

  • Detected PII and token mappings (e.g. [PERSON_1] ↔ John Smith) are stored in chrome.storage.session and cleared when you close the browser.
  • Your extension settings (on/off, shield mode, scan files) are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device only.

What we never do

  • We never send your text, files, or PII to any Omna server.
  • We never sell or rent your data, or share it for advertising.
  • We never use third-party advertising or analytics trackers on our website. The only network requests the extension makes that leave your device are the anonymous usage events described below — never your content.

Anonymous usage telemetry

The Mac app and Chrome extension send anonymous usage events (event type, a randomly generated device identifier, timestamp) to omna.dev. Our server also receives and stores the IP address of the request. We never collect file contents, prompts, questions, or any personal data from your documents. Telemetry is stored in our database and used only to count installs and feature usage. Users can request deletion by emailing hello@omna.dev with their device ID (visible in the app's preferences).

Optional email capture

If you enter your email to claim an early-access spot, we store it and use it only for product updates, with an unsubscribe link in every email.

Account and billing data

If you sign up for a paid plan (Pro, Team, or Enterprise), we collect the information needed to run your account — such as your name, email, and organization — and your payment is processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. We use this data to provide the Service, bill you, and provide support.

Cookies

We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies on omna.dev. If you sign in to a paid account, we use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. Because we set no non-essential cookies, we do not show a cookie-consent banner. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and add consent controls where required.

Service providers

We rely on a small set of providers to operate the Service — including Supabase (database and authentication), Cloudflare (hosting and content delivery), and a payment processor for paid plans. These providers process data only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data we hold about you — including telemetry tied to a device ID, your early-access email, or account and billing data — by emailing hello@omna.dev. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
